How this credit utilization calculator works

Formula used

Total reported revolving balances divided by total revolving limits, multiplied by 100.

How to read the result

The percentage is a snapshot based on what issuers report. Review overall utilization and each individual card, while keeping on-time payment the priority.

What the estimate leaves out

There is no universal percentage cliff that guarantees a score change. Scoring models, report dates, and the rest of the credit file also matter.

Use the result as a starting point, then read how to understand what credit utilization measures. For formula details and test limits, see the calculator methodology.

Read the ratio as a reporting snapshot

Utilization describes reported revolving balances relative to limits. It does not measure affordability, payment history, or every factor used in a credit decision.

Use reported figures

A statement balance may be reported before the due date even when you later pay in full. Check the balance and limit shown on each credit report.

Choose your own comparison

The target field is a planning reference, not a promise of a score change. The tool shows the balance change needed to reach that selected ratio.

Review each card too

Overall utilization can hide one heavily used account. Calculate individual card ratios before moving balances or closing an account.

Use realistic inputs

Add the balances and limits for revolving cards that appear on the same report. Do not mix a live account balance with an older reported limit if you can avoid it.

Verify terms before acting

Payment history and accurate reporting remain important. Avoid late payments, confirm issuer reporting dates, and dispute incorrect balances or limits through the proper process.
